Prinses Beatrix Jubilee Award - Monday, 29 May 2006
To mark the jubilee of the Prinses Beatrix Fonds, two prizes each worth € 1.25m have been awarded for research on muscle disease and brain disorders relating to defects in motor activity, e.g. Parkinson, Cerebellaire Ataxie en Huntington's disease. Through these awards, the fund will give a very powerful impulse to this research. After a comprehensive selection procedure the scientific jury chose two prize winners. Prof. dr. Jan Smeitink from the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre for his research on mitochondrial disease and Prof. dr. Chris de Zeeuw from the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam for research on defects of motor activity. The two winners belong to the global top in these research areas and have significant research results booked under their names.
Both Queen Beatrix and Minister M.J.A. van der Hoeven were present at the research awards ceremony during the Jubilee-conference on 26th August 2006 at the Beatrix Theatre in Utrecht. The ceremony and a documentary of the work of both researchers was broadcasted on Dutch Television the 31st of August.

Nobel excellence in EU research projects - Monday, 12 December 2005
German scientist Theodor Hänsch will receive his Nobel Prize at the Award Ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. His research group at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics is also involved in the EU-funded research project, Conquest, studying quantum phenomena. And many more Nobel Laureates are teaming up with other European researchers to do joint research in current EU-funded projects.

New MSc. Programme: Molecular Mechanisms of Disease - Friday, 25 November 2005
The Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS) in the Netherlands is a leading European research school within the domain of Molecular Mechanisms of Diseases and provides a research setting for several departments of the Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre.
The NCMLS would like to draw your attention to a new international MSc. Programme "Molecular Mechanisms of Disease". This programme is intended for talented students who would eventually like to continue in research as PhD students.
